Your New Role and Responsibilities
The Air Component Command and Control Capability System (AC-C2CS) is a mission-critical suite of software applications that enables the Australian Defence Force (ADF) to effectively plan, prepare, execute, manage, and report on aviation operations.
This role is focused on keeping mission-critical, Linux-hosted application services highly available, secure, and performant. You’ll combine hands-on Linux administration with operational support for database-backed platforms (including Sybase), working within ITIL processes to deliver stable services, rapid incident resolution, and continuous improvement.
Key responsibilities include:
- Administer and maintain Linux server environments (RHEL/CentOS/Ubuntu) supporting mission-critical applications.
- Monitor and improve application and platform availability, performance, and capacity.
- Deliver deployments, upgrades, and patching across systems and applications, including change planning and validation.
- Troubleshoot complex application, OS, and database-related issues (including Sybase connectivity and performance).
- Operate within ITIL processes to manage incidents, problems (RCA), service requests, and accurate ITSM records.
What You’ll Bring to Make an Impact
- Strong hands-on Linux administration experience (Red Hat preferred); RHCSA/RHCE desirable.
- Experience supporting enterprise applications in production environments, including middleware/runtime stacks.
- Working knowledge of Sybase (or similar) database operational support (monitoring, backup/recovery, performance basics).
- Scripting capability (Bash and/or Python) plus familiarity with monitoring and log analysis tools.
- Must hold or be eligible to obtain NV2 Security Clearance and be able to work in secure/regulated environments.
