Role Overview

Flinders Port Holdings Civil and Construction team plays a key role in maintaining and improving critical port infrastructure across our sites. With a strong pipeline of ongoing works and continued investment in plant and equipment, the team delivers a wide range of civil maintenance and construction activities.

We are seeking a Civil Leading Hand to support the efficient and effective maintenance of Flinders Port Holdings assets. In this role, you will help lead a small team of operators and labourers, coordinating daily activities to ensure work is completed safely, to a high standard, and in line with operational requirements.

Key Responsibilities

  • Support the Civil Team Leader in the coordination and delivery of civil maintenance and project works on site;

  • Act as a hands on leader, actively participating in daily tasks including the use of tools and operation of civil equipment;

  • Provide daily direction and support to team members during task execution, ensuring work is carried out safely and efficiently;

  • Promote safety by identifying hazards, managing contractors, and fostering a positive safety culture;

  • Conduct daily toolbox meetings and pre-start briefings to communicate work plans and safety priorities; and

  • Provide support to the Civil Team Leader and step into the role as required to ensure continuity of supervision and work coordination during absences.

About you

Your skills and experience will include:

  • Civil Construction trade qualifications or significant civil experience;

  • Essential licences - excavator, front end loader, skid steer, and HR or HC licence, with ability to obtain others as needed;

  • White Card and valid Driver’s Licence;

  • Experience and ability to lead small teams when required, work collaboratively in a multi-skilled team, and communicate effectively with others;

  • Strong understanding of WHS practices, JSEAs, hazard identification, and incident reporting is essential; and

  • Reliable, proactive, and able to manage time well with minimal supervision.
